How Much Does It Cost to Build a Chatbot? 2026

A custom chatbot for a business in Israel starts at about ILS 2,400–3,500 for a basic bot, and usually costs about ILS 7,000–20,000 for an AI agent connected to a calendar, CRM or other business systems. Large projects are quoted at around ILS 40,000. On top of setup, expect roughly ILS 100 to 2,500 a month for hosting, maintenance and AI usage. No-code bot builders cost about ILS 100 to 1,000 a month, and a managed AI agent subscription such as DanAI starts at ILS 500 a month with no setup fee.

How much does each way of building a chatbot cost?

There are three main routes to a working chatbot. They differ in more than price: who builds it, who maintains it, and who is responsible when something changes.

Custom development. Achiya Automation publishes a basic answering bot from ILS 3,500, a calendar connection for about ILS 2,500 more, a CRM connection for ILS 3,000–6,000 or more, and ILS 100–300 a month to run it. Connectop lists basic setup at ILS 2,400 and says most real implementations fall between ILS 7,000 and 20,000. BizRunner estimates a full AI bot at ILS 10,000–20,000 or more, plus ILS 600–1,500 a month. Eran Simtob writes that an AI chatbot answering from business data starts around ILS 10,000 and reaches about ILS 40,000 for large companies.

No-code bot builders. VirtualSpirits lists website chat from ILS 99 and a WhatsApp bot at ILS 299 a month. OCTBOT starts at ILS 119 and Gambot at ILS 179 a month. All of these exclude VAT. Managed AI agent subscription. Here you don’t build a script. You describe the business — services, prices, hours and policies — and the agent answers from it in free-form language. STSICONIC estimates an LLM-based AI agent service at ILS 1,000–2,500 a month. WhaleBiz lists ILS 190–990 a month plus ILS 990–2,990 setup. DanAI’s base package costs ILS 500 a month and includes WhatsApp replies, Google Calendar booking, customer follow-up, a CRM and human handoff. See all packages and prices.

What drives the price of a chatbot?

How many channels does the bot need?

Every channel — WhatsApp, website, Facebook, Instagram — is another connection to set up and test. In custom development that shows up in setup cost; in subscriptions, usually as a higher tier. Website chat alone is a different project from a WhatsApp bot. See website chatbot pricing and setup.

Which integrations are required?

Connecting to a calendar, CRM, payments or inventory is usually the most expensive part. BizRunner estimates each external integration at ILS 500–3,000. Achiya Automation prices a CRM connection at ILS 3,000–6,000 or more. Before asking for quotes, write down exactly which systems the bot must reach and what it must do in them.

AI agent or menu bot?

A menu bot follows fixed buttons and paths. An AI agent understands free-form questions but usually costs more to set up and run. BizRunner puts the setup difference between an AI bot and a scripted bot at ILS 2,000–4,000. Some vendors cap the number of AI messages per month and charge for overage. For example, WhaleBiz charges ILS 0.32–0.45 per AI message above the allowance, depending on the plan. Ask what happens when you exceed the cap.

Hebrew quality

Real customers write with abbreviations, typos and English words mixed in. A bot that was not tested on messages like these will need rounds of fixes, and in custom development each round costs time and money. Ask every vendor to run ten real questions from your business before you sign.

Maintenance and updates

Prices change, services change and systems get updated. Ask who updates the bot’s information, what a change costs and how quickly issues are handled. In a subscription, updates are usually done in the dashboard. In custom development, they depend on the contract.

WhatsApp Business API fees

A bot connected to WhatsApp through the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API) is subject to Meta’s pricing. Since July 1, 2025, Meta charges per template message. The rate depends on the category — marketing, utility or authentication — and on the recipient’s country calling code. Marketing messages are always charged. Regular messages, and utility templates, sent within 24 hours of a customer’s message are free. When a customer arrives from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, a 72-hour free window can open, under conditions Meta describes.

Connectop and WhaleBiz state explicitly that Meta’s message fees are not included in their prices. Gambot explains on its price page that Meta charges by message type and destination country, and AllChat notes that additional message charges may apply. DanAI connects to WhatsApp with a QR scan, like WhatsApp Web, and its packages have no message cap.

Example: what does a WhatsApp chatbot cost in the first year?

The scenario: a small clinic wants a WhatsApp bot that answers common questions and books appointments in a calendar. First-year cost, using published prices:

• Custom development (Achiya Automation’s price list): ILS 3,500 for the answering bot plus about ILS 2,500 for the calendar connection — about ILS 6,000 setup. Running costs of ILS 100–300 a month for 12 months — ILS 1,200–3,600. Total about ILS 7,200–9,600, plus Meta and third-party fees if needed.
• No-code bot builder: a mid-tier plan, for example Gambot Pro at ILS 359 a month, for 12 months — about ILS 4,300 before VAT. Add Meta’s fees, paid setup if you order it, and your own time to build and maintain the script.
• DanAI subscription: ILS 500 for 12 months — ILS 6,000, including Google Calendar booking. No setup fee and no message cap.

The second year looks different. With custom development there is no setup fee anymore, leaving ILS 1,200–3,600 a year to run it, plus fees. So a subscription is not always the cheapest option. How to choose: a checklist before you sign

1. What must the bot do? List 5–10 tasks: quote prices, book appointments, collect details, hand off to a person.
2. Which channels? WhatsApp only, or also website, Facebook and Instagram.
3. Which integrations? Calendar, CRM, booking system, payments.
4. AI or menus? If customers ask in their own words, menus will frustrate them. If there are three fixed options, a menu is enough. See chatbot vs. AI agent.
5. How does it connect to WhatsApp? Through the official API or a QR scan — and who pays message fees.
6. What is the two-year cost? Setup, running costs, fees and VAT together.
7. Who maintains it? Who updates prices, what changes cost and how fast issues are fixed.
8. Who owns the code and data? What happens to conversations and contacts if you leave.
9. Where are messages processed? Ask which AI model handles conversations. DanAI runs its model on its own servers; messages are not sent to OpenAI or other AI providers.

When is custom development the right choice?

Custom development is worth the investment when:

• The bot must read from and write to an internal system with no ready-made connection, such as the business’s own management software.
• The process is unique: complex quote calculations, eligibility checks or hand-offs between departments.
• The business needs to own the code, or has security and compliance requirements an off-the-shelf product doesn’t meet.
• Volume is high enough that a subscription costs more over time than building and maintaining your own.
